Traffic bulletin: Closure on M11, Essex

27 September 2013 17:34

Highways Agency

Road users are advised that the southbound M11 is closed between junction 7, Harlow and junction 6, M25 following an incident earlier this afternoon. The closure will remain in place through this evening’s peak period and possibly overnight.

A trailer has overturned onto the carriageway spilling a large amount of cooking oil. The carriageway is currently being cleaned and will then need to be inspected to see if resurfacing is required.

A diversion route is in place from junction 7 via the A414 and A10 to the M25 at junction 6, but congestion on the southbound M11 is very heavy. Road users travelling south are advised to avoid the M11 and follow the A12 or A1(M) south if possible.

The Highways Agency provides live traffic information via its website www.highways.gov.uk/traffic, local and national radio travel bulletins, electronic road signs and mobile platforms, such as the iPhone. Local Twitter services are also available at @HAtraffic_east.
